ADD/ADHD
Often regarded as a childhood diagnosis, Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) can continue throughout adulthood. ADHD refers to a neurobehavioral developmental disorder that affects about 3 to 5 percent of the world’s population. This condition can be manifested by a persistent pattern of inattention and impulsiveness, with or without hyperactivity. A genetic component has been strongly linked with ADHD and it occurs twice as common in boys as in girls. Considered as a chronic disorder, ADHD’s methods of treatment involve some combination of medications which are age appropriate, behaviour modifications depending on the needs of the child, life style changes, as well as counselling for children and parents.
