Alcoholism
Alcoholism refers to the continuous or excessive use of alcohol (ethanol) with associated pathologic results. Moreover, alcoholism is characterised by constant or periodic intoxication. Meanwhile, the ingestion of alcohol is necessary to develop alcoholism, but the use of alcohol does not predict the development of alcoholism. Further, the quantity, frequency, and regularity of alcohol consumption that are required in the development of alcoholism and these factors are in variation from one individual to another. Some risk factors associated with alcoholism are emotional health, social environment, and genetic predisposition. Lastly, the symptoms as well as the consequences associated with severe alcohol consumption also vary greatly.
