Bones, Joints and Muscles
The human musculoskeletal system, which is consists of the human skeleton and the skeletal muscles, is an organ system that gives humans the ability to perform various physical tasks. Our bones, joints and muscles work together and support each other to enable us to walk, run, enjoy our favourite hobbies and sports, and perform other physical movements. However, if these organs are abused and neglected, severe disorders or diseases might develop. In this regard, we offer you here an insight on the functions and common diseases of the human bones, joints, and muscles, as well information on how to take care of these vital organs.
Body Muscles
Bones. Our bones support the form of our entire body from head to toe. They also protect various organs of our body – such as the ribs which protect our heart, liver and lungs – and produce red and white blood cells.
Joints. Primarily function to connect bones to other bones. They make skeleton flexible, and allow our bodies to move in many ways.
Muscles. Our bodies have more than 650 muscles. These muscles support the bones, hold the skeleton system together, and give us form and shape.
Common diseases of the bones, joints and muscles
Osteoporosis – one of the most common bone diseases characterised by gradual fracture and thinning of the bone. This medical condition often happens in old age when the body’s ability to replace worn out bone becomes less. Treatment: hormone replacement therapy, testosterone treatment, calcium and vitamin D supplements, selective estrogens receptor modulator (SERM) drugs, Calcitonin, and non-hormonal drugs.

Orange County Spinal Decompression
Rickets – an abnormal bone formation in children characterised by softening of the bones that leads to fracture and deformity. This bone development disorder is often cause by lack of adequate calcium, vitamin D deficiency, and severe malnutrition. Treatment: increased dietary intake of calcium, phosphate and vitamin D, and exposure to sunshine.
Arthritis – a disease characterised by inflammation of the bone joint. Arthritis is common among older people and is often caused by strains and injuries from repetitive action, sports, falls, overexertion, or degeneration of joint cartilage. Treatment: physical exercise, occupational therapy, lifestyle changes, medication and dietary supplements.
Muscular Dystrophy is a genetic disease of the muscle characterised by gradual weakening and breakdown of the muscle over time.
Repetitive stress injuries are a group of injuries resulting from repetitive physical action such as playing computer that placed too much stress on just some part of the body.
Back and neck pain. What causes back and neck pain is difficult to diagnose, but there are several ways to avoid them. Regular stretching and exercise and taking breaks every 30 minutes of a repetitive task can help one avoid this uncomfortable pain.
