Chronic Pain
Chronic pain is simply described as a pain that never goes away. From its chronic nature, this type of pain has started as a pain that is negligible to the patient, and without treatment, this pain has grown into a nagging type of pain. Firstly, pain is very subjective. The pain intensity of an individual of the same level may be of different pain scale on a different individual. Chronic pain may be caused by an underlying disease process whether benign or serious. The best approach is to have your doctor check on the cause of the chronic pain. In general, medications would include paracetamol or acetaminophen for mild pain. Morphine and oxycodone may be the drugs of choice for moderate to severe chronic pain sufferers. Apart from drugs, there are alternative ways to treat chronic pain. These include neuromodulation, thermal agents and electrotherapy, behavioural therapy and biofeedback.
