Deafness
Deafness or hearing loss is the full or partial decrease in the ability to perceive sounds. This medical condition is caused by a number of biological and environmental factors. There are two main types of deafness: conductive hearing loss and sensorineural hearing loss. Conductive deafness is caused by abnormalities or injuries in the outer or middle ear or both. On the other hand, sensorineural deafness is caused by the insensitivity of the inner ear or the impaired function of the auditory nerve. If a patient is diagnosed with conductive deafness, the doctor will most probably prescribe the patient with a hearing aid to correct severe deafness. Causes of deafness may be congenital, hereditary, environmental or secondary to injury or illness.
