Dieting refers to the practice food ingestion in a regulated manner in order to achieve or maintain a controlled weight. Generally, dieting programs are geared towards weight loss for those who are overweight or obese, while other utilise dieting to gain weight or maintain a stable body weight. There are different types of dieting, including weight-loss diets which restrict the intake of specific foods, or food in general, to reduce body weight; weight-gain diet which increase the body mass of the athletes and gain advantage in their field. Lastly, it is important to consider that dieting should be a healthy move and not a form of starvation.
