Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue
Fibromyalgia is a chronic disorder characterized by a heightened and painful response to gentle touch. It is a syndrome that can be interchanged with the term chronic fatigue. Experts assume that fibromyalgia is a genetically linked disorder. Signs and symptoms include chronic widespread pain, muscle aches, prolonged muscle spasms, weakness in limbs, chronic sleep disturbances. Some patients experience eye problems like eye pain, light sensitivity, blurred vision and fluctuating visual clarity. Psychological factors may be involved in the cause of fibromyalgia. These include depression, stress, sleep disturbance, and dopamine abnormality. Treatment may consist of analgesics, muscle relaxants, tricyclic antidepressants, dopamine agonists, cannabinoids, and physical modalities like heat, massage, physical therapy or acupuncture.
