Food Allergies
Food allergy is a type of allergy that produces hypersensitivity reactions when consuming a particular food. This food is called a trigger or allergen that creates a toxic reaction within the body. People with food allergies must be able to identify the type of foods that they are allergic with to avoid the inconvenience of allergic attacks. On a large scale, food allergies are generally mild but if food consumption creates severe allergic reactions, the allergic attack could be grave. The common signs of food allergies include itching on specific areas of the body, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and abdominal pain. Allergens may also create hives or may cause asthma. Anaphylaxis is the sudden drop of blood pressure and happens when allergic reactions are fatal and severe. Food allergy treatments include avoidance of the food triggers, antihistamines and epinephrine for anaphylactic shocks.
