Headaches and Migraines
A migraine is a type of headache that is throbbing and pulsating in nature. Most often, migraine sufferers experience one-sided headaches associated with nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light, sound and smell. There are two most common types of migraine headaches: migraine with aura and migraine without aura. Other types that happen less frequently includes abdominal migraine, basilar artery migraine, carotidynia, ocular migraine, menstrual migraine and status migrainosus. The cause of migraine headaches is unknown but certain triggers initiate the headaches. Examples of such triggers are alcohol, environmental factors, exertion, food, hunger, stress, and lack of sleep. There are prophylactic treatments for migraine sufferers but the best way of treating it is to prevent the migraine from happening. Prevention by avoiding triggers and managing stress effectively may help the patient from having recurring migraine headaches.
