Lupus
Systemic lupus erythematosus or SLE is a chronic autoimmune inflammatory disorder that usually affects the joints, skin, kidney and other organs. In this disease, the immune system is uncompromised and cannot tell the difference between harmful substances and healthy ones. Hence, the body attacks the normal structures of the body causing injury and damage. In worst cases, systemic lupus erythematosus can lead to death. General symptoms include persistent fever, overall fatigue and discomfort, a butterfly rash on the skin, sensitivity to sunlight, joint pain or swelling, muscle aches, nausea and vomiting. There is no known treatment for SLE, but drug therapy and lifestyle modification alleviate the disabling signs and symptoms of the disease.
