Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) refers to a chronic anxiety disorder that is characterised by obsessive, distressing, and related compulsions or “rituals” or which attempt to neutralise the obsessions. Furthermore, it is important for these individuals to perform these tasks or rituals meticulously. In dealing with these types of patients, it is important to give them time to portray their rituals to avoid distress. This condition becomes a problem if the individual’s rituals already affect his or her daily functioning which can be frustrating to friends and families. Lastly, OCD exhibits distinguishable features from other types of anxiety such as tension and stress that are almost always present throughout life.
