Orthopedics
Orthopaedics is the branch of surgical medicine that deals with the musculoskeletal disorders and conditions of humans. Orthopaedic surgeons specialize in hand surgery, shoulder and elbow surgery, total joint reconstruction or arthroplasty, paediatric orthopaedics, foot and ankle surgery, surgical sports medicine and orthopaedic trauma. Common musculoskeletal conditions need the attention of orthopaedic specialists. In children, these include flatfeet, toe-walking, in-toeing, bowlegs, and knock-knees. In adults, fractures, joint replacements and sports-related injuries need consultation from an orthopaedist or orthopaedic surgeon. Orthopaedic conditions need to be addressed immediately to avoid further injury to the structure and to prevent deformities.
