Podiatry
The human foot is made up of small bones and muscles that contribute to the complexity of the foot. The foot and leg are often overlooked in the field of medicine. But unknowingly, certain diseases affect the lower extremities and may involve serious consequences such as amputation, if left untreated. Podiatry is the branch of medicine that deals with the study and treatment of disorders affecting the foot and the leg. The practitioner is called the podiatrist, and he or she may also be known as a chiropodist in some countries. Their job is to primarily treat corns, calluses, ingrown toenails, bunions and arch problems. On a more serious side, podiatrists treat ankle and foot injuries or infections and deformities. They can even prescribe drugs for the treatment of said conditions and prescribe physical therapy if needed.
