Post Traumatic Stress (PTSD)
An anxiety disorder that can develop after exposure to one or more terrifying events that threaten or cause grave physical harm refers to posttraumatic stress disorder or PTSD. Moreover, it is a severe and ongoing emotional reaction to an extreme psychological trauma and such stressor may have the involvement of someone’s actual death, a threat to the patient’s or someone else’s life, serious physical injury, or threat to physical or psychological integrity, overwhelming usual psychological defences. In addition, PTSD has also been recognised in the past as shell shock, railway spine, posttraumatic stress syndrome or PTSS, or traumatic war neurosis.
