Prostate Cancer
The prostate gland is part of male’s reproductive system that is responsible for the control in urination and producing seminal fluid. Prostate cancer is a type of cancer that affects this structure. It is the most common malignancy among men and the second leading cause of cancer deaths among American men. It is caused by untreated benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH). Other predisposing factors include advancing age, genetics, hormonal influences, and environmental toxins. Most commonly, men above 40 are candidates to this cancer. A lump on the prostate gland is often a symptom. Also, patients can experience burning sensation upon urination or blood in the urine. In the advanced stages, prostate cancer can metastasize to nearby structures in the body.
