Psoriasis
Psoriasis refers to a non-contagious disorder affecting the skin and joints. A chronic and recurring condition, psoriasis causes red scaly patches to appear on the skin. Moreover, these scaly patches caused by psoriasis, called psoriatic plaques, are areas of inflammation as well as excessive skin production. Furthermore, psoriasis varies in severity–from minor localised patches to complete body coverage. Areas commonly affected by psoriasis include the skin of the elbows and knees, scalp, and genitals and can usually be found on the extensor aspect of the joint. Genetics is pointed out as a predisposing factor in the development of psoriasis; however, the exact cause is unknown.
