Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs)
A sexually transmitted disease (STD) or venereal disease (VD) refers to an illness that has a significant probability of transmission by means of sexual contact between humans or animals and this includes vaginal intercourse, anal sex, or oral sex. Moreover, some STDs or infections can also be transmitted via use of an IV drug needle after being used by an infected person, as well as through breastfeeding or childbirth. Sexually transmitted infections have been well known for hundreds of years and there are different types and pathogenic causes of STDs: bacterial, fungal, viral, parasites, protozoal, sexually transmitted enteric infections, and sexually transmissible oral infections.
