Sleep Disorders
Somnipathy, or sleep disorder, refers to a medical disorder of the sleep patterns of a person or animal and some of these are serious enough that they hinder normal physical, mental and emotional functioning of an individual. Some of the common sleep disorders include bruxism or involuntarily grinding or clenching of the teeth while sleeping, delayed sleep phase syndrome (DSPS), hypopnoea or abnormal shallow breathing during sleep, narcolepsy or falling asleep spontaneously and unwillingly, night terror, parasomnias which include disruptive sleep-related events, periodic limp movement disorder (PLMD), rapid eye movement behaviour disorder (RBD), restless leg syndrome (RLS), and others. Lastly, a polysomnogram is a test commonly ordered for some sleep disorders.
