Smoking Cessation
Nicotine found in cigarettes is an addictive substance that is known to be a carcinogen. Because of the many diseases, especially in the respiratory system, smoking and inhaling tobacco smoke has become highly hazardous to the health of the smoker and the people around him or her. Smoking cessation has been a necessary step among patients who suffer respiratory diseases and other lifestyle diseases that make smoking the biggest culprit. Smoking cessation is a tough feat especially among the smokers because of its addictive nature. Many treatment options are available for those who cannot quit abruptly. Nicotine replacement therapy is used by some by placing nicotine patches on the skin or by chewing gums, lozenges and using inhalers when the nicotine craving ensues. Alternative techniques include hypnosis, herbal supplements, acupuncture and joining support groups to name a few.
