Surgery
Surgery is a medical specialty that involves instrumentation and surgical skills of a surgeon. It is a method to treat, to investigate pathological conditions, and/or to improve body parts cosmetically. There are several types of surgery: elective surgery, emergency surgery, exploratory surgery, amputation, reconstructive surgery, cosmetic surgery, transplant surgery, excision, minimally invasive surgery, microsurgery and robotic surgery. During ancient times, surgical procedures were done with no sterile equipment, tools and processes. A patient at that time would die from the infection brought by surgery and not by the disease he or she is affected. However, with the advancement of medicine, surgery has greatly improved nowadays. Surgical tools and surgeon expertise have progressed protecting and prolonging the lives of many.
