Despite the many hazards brought about by cigarette smoking, many still engage in it. According to several studies, tobacco addiction is the second leading cause of death worldwide. The causes of death include atherosclerotic vascular disease, cancer, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD and other disease such as histiocytosis X, respiratory bronchiolitis, obstructive sleep apnoea, idiopathic pneumothorax, low birth weight, and perinatal mortality. Furthermore, the nicotine content in tobacco is highly addictive. It affects mood and performance and is the source of addiction to tobacco. Lastly, according to the World Health Organization, with the present smoking trends, tobacco will kill 10 million people each year by 2020.
